  • Esther: An Introduction

An unknown author wrote the Old Testament book of Esther to explain the events that led to the establishment of Purim as a Jewish festival. There is a literary device that is prominent in this fascinating book. It is called peripety. Peripety is a term used to refer to a sudden turn of events that reverses the expected outcome of a story. This message is an overview of the book and its key characters. We also see that peripety is prevalent in God’s redemptive story – God rewrites the human story; through faith in Christ, he rewrites your story, and he reverses the expected, and we might add – deserved, ending.
