Adam and Eve

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Promises Made; Promises Kept

Summary: God makes man, male and female, in his own image and places them in the Garden of Eden. Sandra Richter, in her book The Epic of Eden, writes: “His goal was that the people of God might dwell in the place of God, enjoying the presence of God.” But something terrible happens as Adam and Eve disobey God’s command. As a result, death enters the human story and the couple are banished from the Garden. God gives a promise of a Redeemer, One who would deal the devil a death blow. By this, he would restore what was lost. Biblical history is the story of covenants that God makes with his people, giving promises that he would and will surely keep.

The Redemption Story: An Introduction

Series: Promises Made; Promises Kept

Summary: When things just aren’t going well in our lives, we wonder if there really is a purpose and direction that makes sense. The Bible gives a truly clear answer to that concern. It declares that God has an eternal plan; that everything he does is guided by his divine purposes. After Adam and Eve disobey God’s command, exercising their independence from their Creator, God enters into the human story from the very beginning to redeem a people for his own possession. It is the story of redemption. We are going to trace that story through the lives of some primary characters. In their stories we see God making a covenant with them, a covenant that culminates in the Redeemer himself.
