Keep On In Humility

11/24/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: The Apostle Peter concludes his first letter in the New Testament by calling on leaders to humbly serve and lead those entrusted to their care. He calls on all believers to humble themselves before others in the church. And then, and most profoundly, in relation to suffering (the theme of this book), he exhorts believers to allow God to humble them through suffering. That is, allow God to use suffering and trials in your life for their desired purpose

Keep On In Suffering

11/17/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: The Apostle Peter addresses the suffering that Christians in Asia Minor were experiencing because of their faith in Christ. He reminds them of the sufferings of their Lord and that they should not be surprised to suffer since He suffered. They are exhorted to entrust themselves to a faithful God. We have much to learn from this passage when we encounter difficult times. The advice would be the same: entrust yourself to God!

Keep On Imitating Christ

11/10/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: The Apostle Peter comes back to the example of Jesus in suffering. Building on his example, Peter gives three appeals or exhortations, all pertaining to lives that imitate Christ, honor Christ, and give witness to his life in us. His readers, and we, are encouraged to live rightly, to pray effectively, and to love earnestly.

Keep on in Good Conscience

11/03/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: The Apostle Peter appeals to his readers to maintain a good conscience. This was especially important in being always ready to give the reason for the hope within them. This hope was grounded in Jesus as the example for Christians to follow: he died in the flesh, was made alive in spirit, and has gone to heaven. Peter encourages these suffering believers to know the truth that even though they might experience death physically as followers of Jesus, they too would be made alive in spirit and be raised to heaven as promised.

Keep on in Submission

10/29/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: The Apostle Peter continues the exhortation to live honorable, God-pleasing lives before unbelievers. He turns his attention to three situations in which these believers would find themselves. The first is within society, particularly in one’s relationship to governing authorities. The second is in the marketplace

Keep on in Godly Conduct

10/20/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: In First Peter, chapter two, Peter exhorts his readers (and us) to live in such a way that it provides a good testimony. He encourages believers to know the unique identity they have in Christ which provides a foundation and motivation for godly conduct. The passage ends (verse 12) with a set-up to the rest of chapter two and all of chapter three: three specific areas of life where such godly living makes a real difference.

Keep On In Holiness

10/13/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: In Peter’s letter, he encourages these believers who were experiencing various trials and difficulties to keep on in holiness. It’s easy to get discouraged and to “slide” or “coast” in our commitment to holiness. As we come to understand more and more what it is to be loved unconditionally by God, demonstrated by his Son, Jesus, and his death for us, we respond in obedience to him.

Keep On In Hope

10/06/19

Speaker: Mark Petersburg

Series: Keep On Keeping On

Summary: What do you say to people who are experiencing trials and suffering? What do you say that doesn’t sound trite or superficial or somewhat Pollyanna? This must have been the challenge that faced the Apostle Peter as he dictated his first letter in the New Testament. First of all, he encourages them to keep on keeping on in HOPE.
